Shanghai, proudly one of China’s most iconic skylines, is China’s financial hub. It was the most prosperous city in the East during the 1930s, and it resumed development in the 1990s. Shanghai’s prime location in the Yangtze River Delta supports it status as the world’s busiest container port and is still one of the main industrial centres of China.

With a population of over 23 million, Shanghai has alongside its local population, a high number of foreigners, including Japanese and Americans.  Shanghainese and Mandarin are both widely spoken in China, and the high concentration of foreigners living here makes it easier than any other city in China to get around using English.
                                                          
The Bund, where the heart of Shanghai is, is famed for its waterfront promenade. The Pudong skyline features the Shanghai Tower and Oriental Pearl TV Tower. There is also an extensive public park system in Shanghai; notably the People’s Square park in downtown Shanghai and Fuxing Park in the former French Concesssion of Shanghai .
 
Shanghai is arguable one of the most architecturally rich cities in China, with a rich collection of styles and building. The Bund has a number of early 20^th-centuryarchitecture, and in recent years, contemporary buildings of acclaim have been built, such as the Shanghai Museum and Shanghai Oriental Art Center. Stroll through Shanghai to see old school buildings called shikumen residences, two-or three story townhouses that used to house families.
 
Travel in Shanghai is easy whether by the metro, bus, trolleybus or taxis.
